QuickTime 7.3.1 update fails - why?

XPpro/SP2/IE7. Installed QuickTime and checked for update in "Help" Message came: Microsoft visual C++ RunTime Library


Program C:\Program Files\QuickTimePlayer exe.


A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program internal states. The program cannot continue and must be terminated.

QuickTime 7.3.1 update fails - why?
Try disable your software firewall and antivirus while installing QT. Reinstall QT only and not the QT/ITune package may fix your problems. Make sure you run Window updateto get the latest hotfix and then reinstall QT.
Reply:I have done precisely as suggested and the problem remaims in two separate computers. The Wikipedia article is informative but doesn't guide me to a solution. I have posted questions to Apple and have not yet received a reply Report It
